Freddy Out-Foxed At The YFYFC Great North Mascot Steeplechase!

The Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs held the Great North Mascot Steeplechase at Wetherby Racecourse on the 29th of April 2007.   Sixty-two mascots from all over the country ran in front of a 10,000-strong crowd to raise funds for this year's chosen charity, Sue Ryder Care. To see the mascots in the Parade Ring click here  and for the race itself click here. As Freddy doesn't have big comedy feet he had to start 30 yards further back from the main start. The race started at a blistering pace but fallen bodies soon slowed things down and Freddy made up quite a lot of ground in the final stages. It was too little too late though as Hound Dog from Bingley Harriers scampered home to a howling success. Megumi Noodle Box from the Wokon Noodle Bar, Leeds, finished second. Freddy finished further down the field but managed to raise £50 for Sue Ryder Care and £200 for Halifax Town. Many thanks to all my sponsors - your kind generosity is very much appreciated. All in all, the day raised over £13,000 for Sue Ryder Care and over £3,000 for other charities. If you would like to sponsor Freddy you can still make a pledge to Freddy direct at freddy@freddythefox.co.uk or send a cheque, made payable to Sue Ryder Care - Manorlands Hospice, to the following address:

Freddy the Fox (Wetherby Mascot Race), C/O Halifax Town AFC, The Shay, Halifax, West Yorkshire, HX1 2YS.

Alternatively, you can donate  directly to Sue Ryder Care at www.justgiving.com/freddythefox.

Please note that donations made via justgiving.com will go centrally to Sue Ryder Care while the first £25 in pledges and cheques will be donated to Sue Ryder Care Manorlands Hospice near Keighley with the remainder going to Halifax Town Football Club. All donations, great or small, are very gratefully received. Many, many thanks for taking the time and trouble to help Freddy raise funds for this extremely important cause. A small donation can make a huge difference to someone else's life!
